Youth & Family Services
Adolescence is one of the most layered and demanding seasons of life — and when a teenager is struggling, the whole family feels it.
At Théla, we offer a dedicated space for teens and the families around them. Our work with young people is confidential, teen-led, and grounded in approaches that actually land with adolescents — including somatic, IFS-informed, and DBT-informed methods adapted for where they are developmentally. We have particular depth in supporting neurodivergent teens, including those with autism and ADHD navigating school pressure, social challenges, identity, and the early transition toward independence.
For parents, we offer dedicated strategy sessions — not just reassurance, but clinical guidance on how to respond without escalating, how to advocate effectively, and how to sustain yourself while supporting a struggling teen. Parents of autistic teens exploring OAP-funded services or transition planning are also welcome to book a free consultation to understand what's available and what fits.
We work with teens navigating:
- Anxiety, depression, and mood challenges
- Identity, belonging, and social difficulties
- School stress and academic pressure
- Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
- Autism, ADHD, and neurodivergent identity
- Family conflict and communication breakdown
We support parents with:
- Responding to a struggling or dysregulated teen
- Navigating neurodivergent parenting
- OAP transition planning and service navigation
- Sustaining yourself as a caregiver

ADHD & Neurodivergent Therapy
For neurodivergent individuals who don't need to process the past — they need to function better in the present.
You've probably spent years being told to try harder, focus more, or just get organized. But when your brain is wired differently, standard advice doesn't stick — and that's not a character flaw, it's a mismatch.
At Théla, neurodivergent therapy is affirming, practical, and built around how your brain actually works. Bonny brings over 14 years of ADHD coaching experience alongside her clinical training in autism spectrum disorders, executive function, and emotional regulation — offering a depth of neurodivergent-informed care that goes well beyond a general therapy approach.
What we support:
- ADHD — inattentive, hyperactive, and combined presentations
- Autism spectrum and co-occurring conditions
- Executive functioning challenges and time blindness
- Emotional dysregulation and rejection sensitivity
- Burnout, chronic overwhelm, and masking exhaustion
- Neurodivergent identity, self-understanding, and self-advocacy

Meet Bonny Li
Hi, I'm Bonny — and I'm glad you found your way here.
I'm a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and EdD candidate with specialized training in trauma, EMDR, ADHD, autism, and couples therapy. What makes my practice a little different is the depth I bring to each of these areas — not as separate specialties, but as interconnected threads that often show up together in the same person's story.
I've spent over 14 years coaching and supporting adults and teens with ADHD — long before it became a mainstream conversation. That experience shapes how I work: practically, directly, and with genuine respect for how differently each neurodivergent brain is wired.
My clinical training includes EMDR therapy, the Gottman Method (Levels 1 & 2), Internal Family Systems (IFS), DBT, somatic and polyvagal-informed approaches, play and sand tray therapy, and canine-assisted therapy. I also hold specialized certifications in autism spectrum disorders, trauma, personality disorders, anxiety, and crisis intervention.
In 2022, I was honoured to receive the Attorney General's Victim Services Award of Distinction — recognition that continues to ground the values I bring to every clinical relationship.
I offer therapy in English, Mandarin (普通话), and Cantonese (廣東話), and I work with individuals, couples, teens, and families across Markham, York Region, and virtually throughout Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta.
Therapy here is thoughtful, collaborative, and paced with you — not at you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy at Théla
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most extensively researched treatments available for trauma and PTSD. Rather than requiring you to talk through difficult experiences in detail, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help your brain process and integrate what's been stuck. Research consistently shows significant improvement in trauma symptoms for the majority of clients who complete EMDR treatment. At Théla, EMDR is offered by Bonny in standard sessions, extended sessions, and half-day intensives — allowing you to choose the format that fits your life and readiness.
Yes. Bonny offers fully fluent therapy in English, Mandarin (普通话), and Cantonese (廣東話) — meaning you can conduct every session, from consultation through treatment, in whichever language feels most natural. Our associate therapist Renata Roma offers therapy in English and Portuguese. You should never have to translate your inner world to be understood in therapy.
Our in-person clinic is located at 3 Centre Street, Suite 202 in Markham, Ontario — conveniently accessible for clients in Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Scarborough, North York, and the broader GTA. Virtual therapy is available to clients throughout Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta via secure video — no travel required.
Therapy and coaching are distinct services that serve different goals. Therapy explores the root causes of emotional distress, processes past experiences, and supports mental health treatment. Coaching is forward-focused and skills-based — it's about building strategies, improving function, and creating change in daily life. At Théla, Bonny offers both: clinical therapy for adults and teens, and a specialized Neurodivergent Life & Executive Function Coaching program for individuals with ADHD or autism who are looking for practical tools rather than trauma processing. Many clients benefit from one or the other — and some from both at different points.
Yes — we work with teens ages 12 to 17 for individual therapy and coaching. Teen sessions are confidential within the limits set by law, meaning what your teen shares stays between them and their therapist unless there is a safety concern. For younger teens, a brief parent check-in may occur at the start of the first session to gather background context. We encourage parents to honour their teen's privacy — it builds the trust that makes therapy effective.
The Affordable Therapy Program offers reduced-rate individual therapy sessions delivered by supervised student therapists completing their clinical placements at Théla through our partnerships with Humber College and George Brown College. It is designed for individuals who are committed to the therapeutic process but facing financial barriers. Availability is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're unsure whether it's the right fit, book a free consultation and we'll help you figure out the best option.
Most extended health insurance plans in Canada cover psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. We offer direct billing to most major providers — including Green Shield, Manulife, and Sun Life — meaning we bill your insurer directly so you pay only any remaining balance. For plans that require client-side submission, we provide detailed receipts for every session. We also accept EAP (Employee Assistance Program) referrals, billed directly to your provider. Contact us before your first session to confirm your coverage.
An EMDR Intensive condenses weeks of standard weekly therapy into a focused, extended session — currently offered as a half-day (3 hours). Intensives are ideal for clients who want to accelerate their healing, have limited availability for weekly sessions, or are preparing for a significant life event. They are not a shortcut — they require a good foundation of stabilization and resourcing. All clients interested in an intensive are required to complete a free 15-minute screening call with Bonny first, to ensure the format is appropriate for where you are right now.
No problem at all. Canine-assisted therapy with Emma and Evee is completely optional and is only included when a client specifically books that service. If you have allergies, a fear of dogs, or simply prefer a session without them, just book any of our standard therapy services and Emma and Evee will not be present.
If you're asking this question, there's a good chance therapy would help. Consider reaching out if your symptoms are interfering with daily life, relationships, or work — if you feel stuck despite your best efforts — or if you've been carrying something alone for longer than feels sustainable. Seeking support is not a sign of weakness. It's a recognition that you deserve more than coping.
Both are trained mental health professionals, but their scope differs. Registered Psychotherapists specialize in talk therapy and evidence-based treatment. Psychologists can provide therapy plus psychological testing and assessment. For most counselling, trauma therapy, and ongoing mental health support, a Registered Psychotherapist is the appropriate and effective choice. If you need formal psychological assessment or diagnosis, we can refer you to the right provider.
No — psychotherapists are not able to prescribe medication. Only psychiatrists and physicians can. If medication is part of your broader treatment plan, we are happy to collaborate with your doctor or psychiatrist to ensure your care is coordinated.
Our rates vary by clinician and service type. Bonny's individual therapy sessions start at $185, with EMDR sessions starting at $200 and EMDR Intensives at $650 for a half-day. Couples therapy with Bonny is $290 per session. Neurodivergent Life & Executive Function Coaching with Bonny is $185 per session.
Renata's individual therapy sessions are $175, and couples therapy is $290 per session. Renata also offers a limited number of sliding scale couples sessions at $220 for clients facing financial barriers.
Reduced-rate sessions are available through our Affordable Therapy Program, delivered by supervised student therapists — contact us for current availability and pricing.
Free 15-minute consultations are available with all clinicians and carry no obligation. If you have questions about fees, insurance coverage, or which service is the right fit for your budget, we're happy to talk it through before you commit to anything.
