WHEN LIFE FEELS COMPLICATED

You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin.

Sometimes you know exactly what brings you to therapy. Other times, you may only know that something feels different, overwhelming, or no longer sustainable.

We begin with curiosity about your experiences, relationships, history, strengths, and what you hope might change. You are more than a diagnosis or a list of symptoms.

Therapy can be a place to understand what's happening and develop strategies that remain useful between sessions.

“I understand why I react this way, but I don't know how to change it.”

“I'm functioning, but I'm exhausted.”

“I want to feel more like myself.”

WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE

Support for the experiences behind the labels.

Persistent worry, panic, perfectionism, avoidance, social anxiety, and feeling constantly on alert.

Depression & Mood

Low mood, emotional numbness, hopelessness, loss of motivation, and changes in how you experience daily life.

Trauma & Complex PTSD

Trauma-related distress, attachment wounds, difficult memories, safety, and the effects of prolonged or repeated adversity.

ADHD & Executive Functioning

Task initiation, procrastination, overwhelm, emotional regulation, self-criticism, and sustainable routines.

Autism & Neurodivergence

Masking, sensory experiences, burnout, identity, self-understanding, and navigating environments that may not fit your needs.

Personality & Relational Patterns

Intense emotions, identity concerns, boundaries, attachment, and recurring interpersonal difficulties, including BPD-related experiences.

Relationships & Self-Worth

Communication, people-pleasing, relational trauma, recovery from controlling or harmful relationships, and rebuilding trust in yourself.

OCD & Intrusive Thoughts

Unwanted thoughts, compulsions, uncertainty, and patterns of reassurance or avoidance that interfere with daily life.

OUR APPROACH

Collaborative care, at a pace that respects you.

Therapy is not about being told what to think or who to become. We work together to understand your patterns, question assumptions without dismissing your experiences, and identify what feels meaningful to you.

Safety, stabilization, and emotional regulation matter. Depending on your needs, we may first build grounding and coping strategies before approaching more difficult material.

Your readiness, preferences, and nervous system are part of the conversation—not obstacles to push past.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES

Different tools for different needs.

Our therapists draw from evidence-informed approaches based on their training, your goals, and clinical suitability. Not every clinician offers every approach.

EMDR Therapy

Structured trauma-focused psychotherapy, with preparation and processing paced to your needs and readiness.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Exploring different parts of yourself, protective responses, internal conflicts, and underlying experiences.

DBT-Informed Therapy

Skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and relationships.

CBT & ERP

Understanding connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour; exposure and response prevention when clinically appropriate.

Emotion-Focused & Attachment Work

Exploring emotional needs, attachment experiences, and patterns of connection and disconnection.

Somatic & Nervous System Work

Noticing bodily cues, building regulation capacity, and approaching difficult experiences with care.

Person-Centred & Existential Therapy

Making space for your lived experience, values, identity, meaning, and choices.

Solution-Focused Therapy

Identifying strengths, workable next steps, and changes you want to see in everyday life.

Integrative & Trauma-Informed Care

Bringing together approaches thoughtfully rather than applying the same formula to everyone.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Therapy begins with understanding your story.

Initial sessions focus on what brings you to therapy, your goals, relevant experiences, and the kind of support that may be helpful.

We may use structured assessments when appropriate, but scores do not replace your own account of your experiences. Together, we review progress and adjust our approach as your needs change.

Some sessions focus on exploration; others involve learning and practising strategies you can use outside the therapy room.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before you begin.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

No. You can seek support for stress, emotions, relationships, identity, life changes, or personal growth without a formal diagnosis.

What if I don't know what I want to work on?

That's okay. Early conversations can help clarify what feels difficult, what matters to you, and what you might want to explore.

How long will I need therapy?

There is no universal timeline. Duration depends on your goals, preferences, the concerns you're working through, and your response to treatment. You and your therapist can review this together.

Is therapy available virtually?

Yes. Théla offers virtual individual psychotherapy, subject to clinician availability and eligibility to practise in your location. In-person options depend on the clinician.

What if I am interested in EMDR or IFS?

You can raise this during your consultation. Your therapist can discuss whether the approach is suitable and whether preparation or stabilization may be helpful first.

Is therapy confidential?

Psychotherapy is confidential within applicable legal and professional limits. Your therapist will explain privacy, recordkeeping, and limits to confidentiality during informed consent.

Can I use insurance?

Many extended health plans provide psychotherapy coverage, but benefits differ. Confirm the therapist's credentials, service coverage, and reimbursement requirements with your insurer before booking.
